Amputee & Prosthetic TrainingBack
Our primary therapists in this program have over 40 years of amputee training experience helping patients adjust to using a prosthetic (artificial) limb. Therapy begins immediately after surgery for wound care, with swelling control and proper shaping of the remaining limb. The goal is to regain the flexibility, strength, and endurance necessary to be successful with the prosthesis. Working closely with the patient’s prosthetist, our patients and their families learn how to put the prosthesis on and monitor its fit and function. Patients train on a variety of walking surfaces and with the assistive devices necessary to safely return back to standing, walking, and daily activities.
