Support Services
Facing cancer can be challenging.
Not only for you, but for your family members
and friends as well. That's why The Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer
Care Center offers Support Services - to help everyone involved cope with
the situation better. These services take a variety of forms and address
a number of issues.
Patient Care Coordinator
Services
The
physical, emotional spiritual, and financial turmoil that often accompany
a diagnosis of cancer can seem overwhelming. Working in a supportive environment
conducive to fighting this disease, the patient care coordinators ensure
that cancer services are provided in the most coordinated manner possible.
Not only do patient care coordinators
provide a communication link between the patient and doctor, they also
direct patients and their families to appropriate health care resources
and agencies. Patient care coordinators provide many other services, including:
- Liaison with staff and services at the Center
- patient advocate
- emotional support
- information and education
- consultation and collaboration
- assistance with financial and insurance issues
- home health care evaluation
- nutritional counseling evaluation
- referrals for counseling
- referrals for spiritual and bereavement support.

Community Library
Hundreds
of current books, booklets, magazines, audio tapes, and video tapes are
on hand at the Center for use by anyone in the community. Free booklets
from the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute are also
available. All materials are filed and cross referenced to make it easy
to find the information you want and guide you to related information.
Our volunteer staff continuously collects new material to expand the selection.
In addition to cancer information, you can learn about diet and nutrition,
exercise, meditation and visualization, stress reduction, spirituality,
coping techniques, and more. Humorous movies are also available to add
a little laughter to life. The self-service Library is open during regular
business hours and simple instructions on checking out books and tapes
is posted. A staff member will be happy to help or answer questions about

Support Groups and Wellness Programs
Often
exchanging information with and learning from others who share your experience
is helpful. Having a knowledgeable health-care professional on hand to
answer questions also helps. That's why a variety of support groups are
available to anyone in the community who confronts cancer. Groups are
formed and added based on community need.
Healthy
living is important to preventing and recovering from cancer. A variety
of programs are offered to community members to encourage health and wellness.

Wig Program
Wigs
are available free of charge to all women in the community who have lost
their hair as a result of cancer therapy. Fitted in the privacy of our
salon, an experienced Oncology Volunteer will assist you to look your

Gift Shop
The
Loving Care Gift Shop located in the lobby at the Center offers a wide
variety of items to lift the spirits of anyone who enters the door. The
primary goal of the shop is to supply cancer patients with items such
as turbans, scarfs, hats, inspirational books, pins and related products.
The volunteer buyers are constantly on the look out for items that meet
the special interests and needs of cancer patients and their families.
The Gift Shop also has a large selection
of unusual, yet reasonably priced gifts for giving (or keep for yourself).
They also maintain a variety of greeting cards for all occasions. All
profits from the shop go back to the patient support programs.

- 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday
